Giants Rookie Running Back Carted Off the Field with Right Ankle Injury at Practice
Promising Giants running back Tyrone Tracy Jr. was taken off the field on a cart due to an apparent injury to his right lower leg. Tracy was running kickoff drills at practice. The injury came after he attempted to return a kick. As he was returning the ball, he slipped and got “twisted up” on the practice field. He was left untouched by team members. Moments later, Tracy was carted off the field with an airtight cast wrapped around his fitting lower leg that was applied immediately.
There are fears that the running back may have suffered a fracture. The training staff immediately stabilized the leg. The coaches, team, and training staff are concerned about how quickly an air cast was applied, especially on the field. The training staff and doctors will continue to evaluate him for the injury. He has since then been taken to the Hospital for special surgery for further imaging. Depending on how bad the injury is, this could be a season-ending injury for the running back, which would have a significant long-term impact on the team.
It would be a massive blow for New York if Tracy is out. He, along with several other rookie players this year, is very promising for this team. This injury is bad for the team as they attempt to rebuild their offensive line. Since the start of Week One of the preseason, other team members have gone down.
Tracy was the Giants fifth-round pick for the Giants in the 2024 Draft. He had been receiving starting training throughout training camps. During the preseason, Tracy took five carries for 26 rushing yards while playing with the second-team offense they had on the field during Thursday night’s game.
If this is the case for New York, they will have to use other members to replace him. They must lean on other running backs, such as Dante Miller and Eric Gray. Tracy was showing signs that he would be Devin Singletary’s backup for the season. He may not play in this coming weekend's game and the Giants will have to figure out a backup plan for their running back situation.
