Giants Hit Hard: Star Running Back Sidelined by Concussion Protocol
The Giants are already in bad shape. The team fell apart after losing to the Pittsburgh Steelers on Monday Night Football. Just when they thought things couldn’t get worse, they did. Tyrone Tracy Jr. was placed in the league's concussion protocol after slamming the back of his head on the turf in the loss on Monday night.
This was a major setback for the Giants. Tracy was the player the team relied on to carry them through. Daniel Jones would hand him the ball, and Tracy would take off with it. It wasn’t much, but Jones managed to connect with someone. In the final moments of the game, Steelers' Cam Heyward stopped Tracy. Heyward picked him up and slammed him to the ground, ensuring he couldn't get back up. After the play, Heyward alerted the Giants' trainers and explained that he saw Tracy’s head bounce during the tackle.
The Giants didn’t take long to get him off the field. He was taken into the blue tent with his helmet still on. When he came out, he no longer had it on and was escorted to the locker room, where he did not return to the game. Tracy had been having a great game, with 20 carries for 145 yards and a touchdown, which had been a bright spot for the Giants. He excelled at breaking through the Steelers' defense. Last night, he recorded his longest run since playing against the Seahawks.
He has been the number-one running back for the last several weeks. Losing him is another blow to the Giants. This weekend could be another challenging one for the team. They are already out of the playoffs, and their season doesn’t seem likely to improve. They will face the Washington Commanders, a team they came close to beating earlier in the season. However, they will be down another player, as Tracy will still be out.
