Giants Set for a Quarterback Shakeup: A New Era Begins?
Daniel Jones may have just taken his last snap with the New York Football Giants. The Giants made their decision early Monday morning about what they wanted to do, and it was not an easy one. They spent the bye week evaluating their options and concluded that it was time to move on from their current quarterback. Heading into Week 12, they have decided to start Tommy DeVito as the team's quarterback.
After a disastrous season so far, with the Giants currently standing at 2-8, they are benching their starting quarterback. The events in Germany may have sealed the decision. In Munich, Jones threw two interceptions in an overtime loss to the Panthers. This came after a string of poor performances by the 2019 first-round pick. The $23 million injury guarantee in his contract also heightened the Giants' need for change.
It comes as a surprise to everyone that DeVito will be starting for the Giants over Drew Lock. Lock hasn’t seen much action this season, and he performed decently last season when he was with the Seahawks. However, DeVito was a fan favorite last season. He led the Giants to three wins and was chosen over their second starter from last season, Tyrod Taylor. He truly brings a change of pace to the Giants' offense, and fans are more than happy to see him play again.
As of right now, Jones has no place to go, and no one is likely to trade for him. It looks like his career with the New York Giants is officially over. When the offseason comes, he will likely be released. The rest of the season will determine whether head coach Brian Daboll and general manager Joe Schoen will follow him out the door when the season ends. Hopefully, this change will make a difference for the Giants for the remainder of the regular season. The Giants return on Sunday to take on the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
