Glad You're Sticking Around with the Saints, Ugo Amadi!
Given the countless amounts of football plays you’ve watched over your lifetime, have you ever thought about your own actions during the play? You’re watching a screen filled with the players of two opposing teams who are responsible for the tasks affiliated with his position. As you listen to the cheering of the crowd, you also attempt to determine future actions based on the code that was yelled at. At the 50-yard line, anything could happen up until the fourth down which will likely result in a field goal to at least put some points on the board. Your team’s defense is responsible for preventing a touchdown which would put the opposition ahead for the win in the remaining 10 seconds of this Sunday night matchup. The ball is snapped and at the same time you take a deep breath… and hold it during the next seconds of play.
The quarterback has decided to entrust it to a wide receiver who is also known throughout the league as one of the fastest runners. The handoff is completed and, as he has proven throughout the season, he tears through the defense avoiding any contact. He assumes he is “in the clear” until he realizes he is in the trajectory of another player who is aware of this receiver’s speed. Defensive coordinator Brandon Staley’s own reputation is well-known and being prepared for this possibility has resulted in keeping defensive back Ugo Amadi separate from the chaos to prevent their opponent from securing the win. Timing it perfectly to run out the clock and dismiss another chance to score, a tackle from Amadi ends the game and adds another win to their season.
Many fans will agree that aside from back-to-back wins, consistency throughout the season is important. The same can be applied to see your favorite player returning for another season which happens to be the case for Mr. Ugo Amadi and the New Orleans Saints. During this recent season, Amadi played 11 games during which he had career highs of 52 solo tackles, two sacks, and six tackles resulting in a loss of yardage. At 27 years old, he may be within the prime years of his career which are being spent with one of the best defenses in the league and perhaps among the team’s history. The Saints made a good decision to keep this player who will likely continue to add more numbers to set new career highs.
