Goalkeeper Gets Rebranded as One of the Worst in Manchester United History

Currently ranked 13th in the standings, Manchester United is having their worst season in the Premier League. Unlike Real Madrid– who is experiencing championship success like never before. The last chance they have is winning the Europa League for a last-minute pass to next season's championship league. The loss is taking a toll on players, causing them to hit back at critical comments made towards one another.

Earlier today, Olympique Lyonnais midfielder Nemanja Matic hit back at comments from Manchester United's Andre Onana, describing the Cameroonian as "One of the worst goalkeepers," in the club's history ahead of Thursday's Europa League quarter-final. Pushing back on that comment, Onana emphasized that Manchester United’s skills and capabilities as a successful team surpass that of the French club. He said, "We are way better than them," when referring to the French club this week but Matic, who spent five seasons at United, was not impressed with the player's comments. Matic retaliated, telling reporters on Wednesday, “If you're one of the worst goalkeepers in Manchester United's history, then you need to take care of what you are talking about.”

With heated tensions now fostered on both sides following Wednesday's press conference, Onana took matters of the field to social media. On X, he posted multiple snipes at Man United’s opponents reiterating that he would never be disrespectful to another club, but still took a shot at Matic, who did not win a trophy at United. Onana wrote back, "At least I've lifted trophies with the greatest club in the world. Some can't say the same," along with a picture of him kissing the FA Cup that United won last year. This petty discourse wasn't reciprocated by Matic who completely ignored Onana’s comments to express nothing but kind words for United boss Ruben Amorim -- a former teammate when they both played for Portuguese side Benfica. "We all saw that he has potential, he has everything to become a good coach. In a few years, he made big progress and I'm happy for him, especially because I played with him," Matic said.
