Guide to the Women’s Royal Rumble: Potential Winners Set Up Title Matches at WrestleMania
In the women’s realm of the WWE, the Royal Rumble has only been an event since 2018. Saturday, January 27, marks the sixth annual Rumble since its beginning. The match takes the same model as the men’s Rumble, bringing in 30 contestants in all-out elimination until there is one left standing. The sole survivor then gets their chance to headline a title match at WrestleMania for the belt of their choosing. Here is the breakdown of the contenders to win and solidify a chance for a title at WrestleMania 40.
The favorite to win the Rumble is Bayley, the lead member of Damage CTRL. Bayley was the first person to declare for the 2024 Women’s Royal Rumble Match. She has experience being in previous Rumbles and has good reason to pick either champion if she were to come away with the win. Bayley has already claimed that she will win the Rumble and challenge Rhea Ripley for the Women’s World Championship. However, with stirring frustrations in Damage CTRL, this could be the perfect storm for Bayley to walk away with a win and challenge her stable member Iyo Sky for the WWE Women’s Championship.
Another one of the biggest names to remain as the last woman standing is Becky Lynch. She was one of the first to say yes to the Rumble and is a former winner. “The Man” would be a fantastic headliner to go against either of the belt holders in Rhea Ripley or Iyo Sky with her ability to perform in any feud. All signs would point to a match against Ripley if she were to win, though. In a SmackDown episode on January 15, the Women’s World Champion challenged Lynch in a promo, saying, “I’ll see you at WrestleMania.” Could this be a foreshadowing if Lynch can come away as the victor? “The Man” will have to outlast 29 other competitors to live up to the champions wishes.
Aside from these two favorites to make an appearance in a title fight at WrestleMania, there are a few long shot candidates that could win the Rumble. Two of which are also former winners, like Becky Lynch, in Bianca Belair and Charlotte Flair. Both have held the Raw and Smackdown Women’s Championships and look to make the leap to a Women’s World Championship. And perhaps in what would be the biggest surprise of all, Jade Cargill is a name to watch. Now that the WWE’s direction is fully under Triple H’s command, there is no telling what turns could occur or what superstar is next up. As the newest recruit from AEW, Cargill looks to make her big event debut and make a big splash by winning the Rumble. As a young event in the Women’s WWE World, the Royal Rumble up for grabs and is set to make headlines.
