Has Jayden Daniels Surpassed Caleb Williams After Their Intense Matchup?

NFL

It came down to the wire in a highly anticipated matchup between the former number one and number two overall draft picks of this past draft with Commanders winning it on a last-second Hail Mary attempt to win the game. With the Commanders now in firm control of the NFC East at 6-2, they are looking towards the playoffs behind the amazing play of Jayden Daniels. Meanwhile, the Bears have fallen to 4-3 after this matchup and they are last in a strong NFC North division which may prevent them from making the playoffs this year. With Jayden Daniels beating Caleb Willaims in their first matchup against one another, is it time to declare Jayden Daniels as the better quarterback?

Jayden Daniels through eight weeks into his NFL career has been beyond impressive. He has thrown for 1736 yards and seven touchdowns as well as rushed for an additional 424 yards and four rushing touchdowns. However, what is more impressive is how he has turned around the Commanders’ franchise. The Commanders were 4-13 in 2023, and through only eight games, they have already won more games this year than they did all of last year. Jayden Daniels has turned this team into a winning machine by being a highly efficient passer in the pocket and a dynamic runner when a play breaks down.

Caleb Williams has had the benefit of great weapons like D.J. Moore, Kennan Allen, and Rome Odunze to start his career, but he hasn’t performed up to the expectations that Bears fans had for this team. Over the past few weeks, Caleb Williams has made strides to stay in the pocket and deliver good throws with solid footing. However, yesterday, he went back to trying too much outside of the pocket and as a result, Chicago couldn’t move the ball consistently. Although Jayden Daniels bested Caleb Williams and the Bears yesterday, this debate is far from over and both quarterbacks will likely be stars in the league as long as Caleb Williams continues to develop in this Bears offense.
