How Is Bronny James Performing in The Summer League So Far?

NBA

After getting drafted in the second round this past NBA Draft by the Lakers, many fans league-wide have been speculating about the skill of Bronny James. Even though he averaged just under five points for an underwhelming USC team, there was little question about his draft chances due to him being the son of NBA legend LeBron James. He came in three inches shorter than his previously listed height at the draft combine at six foot one, as opposed to six foot four. Skill-wise, scouts say, he is more of a shooting guard, and being six foot one typically doesn’t fit well with the skillset of a shooting guard. We’ve seen a few summer league games out of Bronny, so let’s see how he’s performed thus far.

So far, Bronny hasn’t played as well as Lakers fans, along with his father, would’ve liked him to play. His stats look similar to those he put up in college, averaging 5.8 points, 3.2 rebounds, and 1.2 steals per game. His efficiency is the most concerning, as he is shooting an abysmal 28.6% from the field. On the good side, he looks very good on the defensive side of the ball, especially due to his height disadvantage. He also looked very good the other night against the Cavs, with 13 points, five rebounds, and three assists in 25 minutes of play. His efficiency was good as well, shooting 50% from the field and hitting a clutch three-pointer in the fourth quarter. This pretty much sealed the game in a 92-89 Lakers victory.

Now obviously, it’s way too early to tell how any of the players in the Summer League are going to pan out. However, the thing about Bronny, it goes without saying that there are going to be eyes on him 24/7. He is the biggest story out of any of the players in the Summer League with good reason. Even though there are many people already calling Bronny a “bust” and “overrated”, he has shown flashes of being a solid NBA player. His athleticism and defensive ability can be useful for any team. It’s going to be exciting for all fans worldwide to keep up with his journey, and if he can play like he did against Cleveland with more consistency, he’s going to prove many doubters wrong and have a good NBA career.
