How Lions Fans Feel About Ben Johnson Joining the Bears

Ben Johnson was one of the brightest parts of the Detroit Lions’ 2024-2025 season. He was one of the most brilliant offensive coordinators the Lions ever had. Johnson executed plays like the hook and ladder and wide receiver passes. For the fans, he made the game exciting to watch. He always found a way to catch the defense off guard. With Ben Johnson on the Lions staff, it seemed like the Lions always had the upper hand in their matchups.

Joining the Bears

During the playoffs, it became apparent to Lions fans that Johnson would be leaving. He had two teams that he was likely to go to. Johnson would either be going to the Raiders or the Bears. Lions fans hoped that it would be the Raiders. However, days after the Lions were eliminated from the playoffs, it was announced that Ben Johnson would be the head coach for the Chicago Bears. For Lions fans, we were already trying to heal the wounds of an underwhelming season, but then our offensive coordinator joined the Lions’ division rival. It was extremely upsetting. Out of all the teams to join, Ben Johnson chose the team that the Lions competed with every season. He is an excellent coordinator, why would it be so hard for him to join a team out of the NFC North? I wish him the best, but that move had me scratching my head.

At the end of the day, Ben Johnson helped the Lions become Super Bowl contenders. That will never be forgotten. It will be difficult to root for him, though, because he is coaching the enemy. Ben Johnson is appreciated, but it will be hard to celebrate him when he is wearing blue and orange.
