How One Feud Is Redefining Women’s Wrestling

WWE

Recently, many members of the WWE women’s division have been complaining about the lack of feuds and matches that they receive at WrestleMania. For years, women’s feuds revolved around championships, and there were no personal one-on-one matches. Some women’s wrestlers just had to settle for tag team matches and battle royals; however, the Jade Cargill and Naomi feud has a chance to break the mold. This feud is built on long-term storytelling, two people who are seeking revenge and payback on one another, and most importantly, the fans are invested in their story. This kind of attention is what the women’s division has been looking for, and if done properly, this could be the start of the women’s division getting opportunities to tell more stories.

When Cargill was mysteriously attacked last November, it left the WWE Universe with one question–Who could have done it? For the next four months, fans were guessing from Bianca Belair to Liv Morgan to The Glow herself. It wasn’t until Cargill returned at the Elimination Chamber that fans got an idea of who it was. The former TBS Champion took Naomi out of the Chamber match, believing it was she who attacked her. It was not until the March 7th episode of SmackDown that Naomi revealed herself as the attacker and explained that she did it because she felt pushed aside and felt like the third wheel between her, Belair, and Cargill. Naomi has fully embraced her heel character and cut a pretty good promo on the March 28th episode of SmackDown that got a positive reaction from the fans online. Now, with all the backstabbing and attacks these two have done, fans are only waiting for this match to be made official for WrestleMania.

It is important for the culmination of this feud to take place on the Grandest Stage of Them All because of the amount of investment both wrestlers and fans have poured into this story. Highlighting this match on the biggest stage possible will also show growth in the fact that the WWE does not need to book a championship match for a women’s feud to be compelling. This feud is personal, and it is showcasing the diverse and talented women’s roster by featuring two women whose personal motivations are at the heart of the story. The WWE needs to get this right, as it can lead to better storytelling and matches for the future of the women’s division.
