Impressive End to a Match That Saw Two Eras of Boxing Meet

On Friday night, professional boxer and influencer Jake Paul faced off against one of the best boxers of all time in Mike Tyson in Dallas, Texas. This much-anticipated event which took place at AT&T Stadium, where the Cowboys played last Sunday, set the record for the largest boxing gate ever outside of Las Vegas. There were over 70,000 in attendance and millions watching at home as the card was streamed across the globe on Netflix. This event certainly lived up to the hype, not only on the main event but also on the undercard. Needless to say, everyone watching was certainly entertained, but let’s get into the main event. A match that saw two eras of boxing meet in the middle of the ring.

The fight was a professional bout but had some rule changes that seemed to benefit the older Tyson. The gloves were 14 ounces instead of the standard 10 ounces, and there were eight rounds of only two minutes a piece. The match started off with a bang as both fighters landed shots early in round one. Tyson pressed the issue early as he was walking Paul down and created pressure for the entirety of the first two rounds, but it was clear that Tyson’s stamina and his legs are not what they used to be. The 58-year-old legend slowed down early on in the fight as Jake moved swiftly, using his lateral movement to reset Tyson over and over again. Paul wobbled Tyson about thirty seconds into Round Three, and this is where his age really started to show. Tyson slowed more and more throughout Round Three, and Tyson seemed less inclined to put pressure on Paul. Round four was more of the same. Paul looked to get more and more comfortable as the fight went on.

In the later rounds, Tyson was not able to keep up with the speed or agility of Jake Paul. Tyson began sitting back and allowed Paul to set the pace. This resulted in Paul peppering Mike with jabs. After the fight went past Round Two, Tyson never stood a chance. Still, the bout went all eight rounds and Tyson didn’t get knocked down once, which makes him the first of Paul’s opponents to avoid a knockdown or knockout. A very impressive feat for a man who is almost 60 years old. Jake Paul was the one who inevitably came out on top with a unanimous decision victory, capping off an insanely entertaining event. With that victory, Paul now improves to 11-1 as a professional boxer and will move on to his next challenge.
