Intercontinental Championship Match Set for WrestleMania

WWE

Raw General Manager Adam Pierce announced that the Intercontinental Championship will be defended in a Fatal Four-Way Match at WrestleMania. Bron Breakker will defend his championship against Penta, Finn Balor, and Dominik Mysterio. All four men have had problems with each other stemming from Balor’s obsession with bringing a championship to the Judgement Day and Penta’s desire to win his first title in the WWE. Mysterio figures into the equation probably due to his girlfriend, Liv Morgan getting him this opportunity after watching him try to make the Judgement Day one cohesive group again.

During the Road to WrestleMania tour, Breaker defended the Intercontinental Championship twice. He beat Balor on the March 17th episode of Raw after Mysterio inadvertently cost his fellow Judgement Day member the match. After the bout, Penta saved Breakker from a post-match attack from the Judgement Day, and then held the championship above his head in front of Breakker, making his intentions known that he wants his championship. The two then faced off on the March 24th episode of Raw in an Intercontinental Championship match that ended in a No Contest after The Judgement Day attacked both men. On the March 31st episode of Raw, Breakker and Penta teamed up to take on Balor and Mysterio, and lost to them after a miscommunication. Now, all four men are set to face each other at the Showcase of the Immortals where Breakker does not have to be pinned or submitted to lose his title.

An intriguing aspect to watch in this match is the dynamic between Balor and Mysterio. Tensions have been brewing between the two as teases of Balor getting kicked out the Judgement Day have surfaced, while Mysterio is trying to keep the group together. Balor seems to want to do his own thing without the help of others. We’ll see how far that takes him at WrestleMania. There have been complaints about how lackluster the build has been to this year's WrestleMania; however, the interaction between these four men and the storyline around the Judgement Day has been consistent. The outcome of this match will be interesting, as it could lead to multiple storylines after. Will Balor leave the Judgement Day if he loses? Will Breakker still be the champion? Will Penta win his first title in the WWE or will Mysterio shock the WWE Universe by getting a massive win?
