Iowa State Dominates as They Win Big 12 Championship
Kansas City, MO - College basketball continues to be one of the strangest sports to watch. There are very few who predicted that Iowa St would end up bullying the Cougars. It was a total team effort early on for the Cyclones as it seemed someone new was scoring every possession. Starting a comeback against a relatively small lead in this game was like climbing Mount Everest as the defense by both squads is so difficult to score against. Keshon Gilbert led the Cyclones at the half with 9 points, helping them secure a 30-23 lead at the break.
Jawan Roberts did not start the second half for the Cougars as his shin contusion seemed to be too painful to play on. They were already missing another big man so there was a lack of depth in the frontcourt. Milan Momcilovich took advantage of his new matchup as they expanded their lead in the early moments of the second half. Houston had no chance of a comeback as they went over a nine-minute stretch without scoring. The Cougars only scored 18 second-half points in what was truly a disappointing and embarrassing effort. Iowa St cruises as they defeat Houston 69-41 and secure a Big 12 Championship, their first since 2015.
Houston will still likely be a #1 seed in the NCAA tournament even with this blow-out loss. Iowa St. has secured their #2 seed and has made their case for a potential #1 seed. With Selection Sunday upon us, the committee has some very important decisions to be made. Do you keep potentially switching Iowa St and Houston as #1 and #2 seeds? We will see soon.
