Is Daniel Jones the Next Benched Quarterback?

NFL

There have been a lot of things happening around the NFL this week. That being said, starting quarterback Bryce Young was benched on the Carolina Panthers. There is a good possibility that the Giants won’t be too far behind with their starting quarterback, Daniel Jones. However, there is one issue with Jones’ possible benching due to his contract. He has a 23-million-dollar injury guarantee for 2025. If he gets injured, it gets fully guaranteed, and he can’t pass the physical in the offseason. So many other teams have benched their quarterbacks to avoid these injury guarantees. Some past benchings were Jimmy Garappolo from last season and Russell Wilson, to name a few. If this is the case in the Big Apple, the Giants may not be too far behind.

They are not at the point yet with the way Jones has played. He struggled in Week One against the Vikings with a 28-6 loss. He threw two interceptions and completed only 52.4 percent of all of his passes. This was not a great game altogether. It mainly was Jones' fault, among other things, for how fast things went south for this team in Week One.

This week against the Commanders was better, but not by much. He completed 16 of 28 passes for 178 yards. He helped score two touchdowns to go along with the total of 32 rushing yards on the five carries against Washington. They could have had the win if things didn't go wrong on the field, such as with placekickers and Malik Nabers’ costly drop that cost them pretty much the whole game.

Jones was out last year with a neck injury and then returned for a game, and then was out again with a torn ACL. He’s not rusty, considering he’s been throwing the ball around at practice and on the field. This may be the one factor that stops the Giants from benching him. With Jones’s 160-million-dollar deal at stake. There is more to factor in here before placing him in as a bench warmer. The Giants are also 1-6 with him as their starting QB. They have had very few wins when putting him in, and this is an issue for the New York team.

They do have the two quarterbacks they can work with, Drew Lock and fan favorite Tommy DeVito. Two quarterbacks that can bring the heat on the field, but only time will tell. The Giants have got some room to move around, but not by much. The quarterback situation is always looking more and more dreadful with each passing day. However, Coach Brian Daboll supports Jones, but as it seems, it won’t be for too much longer if things keep going the way that they do.
