It’s been made clear that the WWE’s new luchador is simply Chad Gable in a mask, with him now set to face Rey Mysterio at WrestleMania 41. This was done because of his storyline of struggling against legitimate luchadores such as Dragon Lee, Penta, Andrade, and Santos Escobar. Despite the clear obviousness of who is behind the mask, is there any possible alternative for El Grande Americano?
There was speculation about El Grande Americano being Rey Fenix, the young brother of Penta, who was reported to have signed with WWE. However, Fenix recently made his debut on SmackDown, which would rule him entirely out of the equation. It also wouldn’t make sense for El Grande Americano to be a masked wrestler, because it would be impossible to reveal them. There are other names that could potentially be in play as to who is behind the mask.
Andrade has not been in a high-profile feud in months and has only had six matches across 2025. Andrade repackaging himself as El Grande Americano and aligning with Chad Gable would be a good way to find a new direction for him. With that being said, it’s clear that El Grande Americano isn’t Andrade when looking at the new luchador’s frame and moveset. Another option for this new wrestler is Charlie Dempsey, especially considering that he would be a perfect fit in the American Made stable due to his technical and shoot-style wrestling.
However, it’s clear that there is only one man behind El Grande Americano, and that is the Olympian Chad Gable. Gable is using the mask to hide behind his fear of losing to luchadors, trying to find a different way to defeat them. El Grande Americano will now face the greatest luchador of all time, Rey Mysterio, at WrestleMania 41, and that is likely where the mask reveal will happen. It is likely that Mysterio will unmask El Grande Americano during their Mania match and then go on to defeat Gable at the Grandest Stage of Them All.
