Is it Time for the Giants to Start Drew Lock?

NFL

As the Giants season dwindles and their window for a successful year is practically closed, it might be time to consider a quarterback change. After leading them to a 2-8 start, the Giants might need to consider benching Daniel Jones. Despite losing five of their eight games by one score, the Giants offense has looked putrid as a whole. The two rookies have been standouts for their offense, with Tyrone Tracy taking over that backfield and emerging as a star and Malik Nabers leading this makeshift receiving core despite suffering multiple injuries. The offensive line has improved but has suffered since losing Andrew Thomas for the year. It might be time for a quarterback change.

The Giants have two backup options to consider at quarterback. The lesser of the two, or the more inexperienced, is Tommy DeVito. DeVito shined in his run last year when the Giants lost Jones and Tyrod Taylor to injury, but that was much of a Cinderella run. The guy with more experience under his belt and with true starter experience is Drew Lock. Lock was signed this past offseason after playing the backup role in Seattle. Lock started his career in Denver, and despite the 20 interceptions he threw in his three years there, he aired the ball out, averaging just under 200 yards per game and throwing for 25 touchdowns in the three seasons.

The Giants should consider a quarterback change as the season comes to a close. If the Giants make a change, this will free up the concern of injury for Daniel Jones, who would then be owed a hefty sum of money if he is unable to play the rest of the season. This offseason, the Giants are expected to start the quarterback carousel all over again with the 2025 NFL Draft. Expect them to take a big name wherever they are positioned. Currently, the Giants would have the number two overall pick if the season ended today.
