Is It Time to Take the Tag “Main Event” Off of Jey Uso?

WWE

This past Monday on Raw, as predicted, Jey Uso was defeated by Gunther in the King of the Ring Tournament Semifinals. It was a great match as it took everything Gunther had to take down Uso. During the match, Gunther was targeting Jey’s shoulder, so that took a toll on Jey’s condition for the entirety of the match. It looked like the tide was turning in Jey’s favor when he hit a Samoan Drop from the top rope on Gunther. Uso had Gunther beaten towards the end of the match when he hit a spear on Gunther, taking out him as well as the referee unfortunately. Immediately after Gunther kicked out of a delayed three-count, with Jey frazzled wondering how to put his opponent away, Gunther took advantage and put Jey in a chokehold to win the match by submission. With Jey now out of the King of the Ring picture, where does he go from here?

Jey Uso earned the tag “Main Event” back in 2020 when WWE was performing in front of no fans during the pandemic. He won numerous singles main events on SmackDown and Roman Reigns put the tag on Jey as he was Roman’s right-hand man while Roman started his reign as WWE Universal Champion. Jey’s twin brother Jimmy Uso fell in line shortly after, which evidently started the whole Bloodline story. Ever since Jey earned the tag “Main Event” on his name, he has yet to win a singles title in WWE. Jey has had multiple opportunities to win every singles title in WWE but has come up short each time. Is it time for Jey to give up the “Main Event'' name? Will he ever win a singles title?

The Usos made their debut in WWE in May 2010 and Jey has been alongside his brother Jimmy for a whole decade of tag team greatness. A lot would say that the Usos are the greatest tag team of all time with a total of eight tag-team title reigns. There was even a time when Jey won the tag titles without Jimmy, and that was with the current WWE Universal Champion Cody Rhodes at Backlash 2023. It’s safe to say that Jey Uso has had more success in a tag team than he has as a singles competitor. Does that mean it’s time for Jey to reunite with his brother Jimmy? When Jimmy returns from his injury sustained by the new Bloodline, Jimmy may call his other half to back him up in this fight.
