Is This George McCaskey’s Last Chance with the Bears?
Since becoming the chairman of the Chicago Bears in 2011, George McCaskey has an 82-113 record for a winning percentage of 42 percent. The Bears have only had two winning seasons under McCaskey, alongside only two playoff appearances that resulted in first-round exits. The fanbase in Chicago has become restless for better results, with many calling for the McCaskey family to sell the team at the end of every losing season. It has now been seven years without a winning season for the Bears, and five years since their last appearance in the playoffs. With the recent passing of the principal owner of the Bears, Virginia Halas McCaskey, it’s expected that George will take over his mother’s role.
With McCaskey seeing an upgrade in his role with the Bears in an off-season that has excited many fans in Chicago, it may be his final chance to turn things around. The Bears have a potential star in quarterback Caleb Williams, weapons in D.J. Moore and Rome Odunze, alongside a completely revamped offensive line. This team will also be led by the most sought-after head coach in the off-season, Ben Johnson, who wants to bring his success from Detroit. There have been many upgrades already for Chicago, and the NFL Draft is still weeks away. Things are starting to look different in the Windy City, and with that comes higher expectations for everyone, especially the ownership.
Bears fans have become accustomed to a repeat of a very familiar cycle over the years. Have a losing season, win the off-season but have the same results next year. With the excitement of everything this off-season, does come plenty of caution for Bears fans. If the Bears are unable to find success under their new head coach and fix their offensive line issues, their next option would be a complete teardown that starts at the top of the organization. Unfortunately for McCaskey, that would mean selling the team that his family has made so rich throughout the years. This upcoming 2025-2026 season may be his final chance to bring his team back to their winning ways.
