Jackson Holliday Called Up by the Orioles

MLB

Last night, the Baltimore Orioles called up their top prospect and Major League Baseball’s top prospect shortstop Jackson Holliday from Triple-A per Jeff Passan of ESPN. The 20-year-old is a very promising player, and that’s no thanks to his dad Matt, a great player back in his day. The number one pick of the 2022 MLB Draft played fantastic in Spring Training, and after excelling in the first couple games of Triple-A, the O’s knew it was time to bring this special young talent into their locker room. Holliday is expected to play second base as 2023 American League Rookie of the Year Gunnar Henderson has shortstop taken.

Through 42 at-bats with the Norfolk Tides, Jackson has recorded 14 hits along with two home runs, nine RBIs, and a stolen base. He also put up a .333 batting average, a .482 on-base percentage, and an on-base plus slugging percentage of 1.077. In his first game with the Tides this season, Holliday went three for five with a home run and four RBIs. He was walked 12 times through 10 games which proves minor league pitchers did not want to face the MLB’s number one prospect. Baltimore is currently 6-4 and is three games behind the New York Yankees for first place in the AL East division. The Orioles are trying to repeat their success from last season when they captured the AL East crown after going 101-61.

There’s no doubt Holliday has the potential to exceed everyone’s expectations. With the chance to live up to his father’s name, Jackson has the potential to consistently bring the O’s to the postseason. He could be an all-star at one point in his career or maybe even a seven-time all-star just like his dad, only time will tell how great the younger Holliday will truly be. If Baltimore gets hot in the upcoming weeks, don’t be surprised if the 20-year-old shortstop is the one leading the charge.
