Jameson Williams Continues to Face Problems
Jameson Williams has had to face a lot of adversity this season. First, he was suspended for two games; now, he is being fined for an excessive celebration. Williams is a phenomenal player, but he needs to be more mature as a person. Williams needs to make sure that he is staying focused on the team instead of himself. He is one of the best deep threats that the Lions have ever had, but he needs to grow as a person just as much as he needs to grow as a player.
Suspension
Earlier this season, Jameson Williams was suspended two games for violating the NFL’s performance-enhancing substance policy. This caused him to miss Week Eight against the Tennessee Titans and Week Nine against the Packers. Jameson Williams came out with a statement about this, saying, “At no time have I ever taken something in an attempt to cheat or look for an unfair advantage.” He followed this by saying, “I understand that I am responsible for everything that goes into my body, and I have to take accountability in this instance.” Williams seemed to handle the suspension with maturity. He needed to make sure that something like this would not happen again.
Fined for On-Field Celebrations
In Week 11, Jameson Williams was fined $19,697 after a 64-yard touchdown catch as he grabbed his crotch while jumping backward into the end zone. Jameson Williams was trying to make a tribute to former Seattle Seahawks running back Marshawn Lynch as this was his celebration when he would score touchdowns. This is not the first time that something like this has happened. When the Detroit Lions played the Seattle Seahawks, Williams had a 70-yard touchdown reception. After he made his way to the end zone, he took the football and, jumped up to the crossbar, and slammed the ball down from it. Williams did this as a tribute to Calvin Johnson. However, he was fined $14,069 by the NFL this time. In this play, he was fined for unsportsmanlike conduct. If he wants to stop getting fined, he will need to stop celebrating like this.
Jameson Williams has faced a lot of adversity this season, from fines for excessive celebrations to a two-game suspension. He needs to carry himself better as a person so that he can thrive as a player. Dan Campbell, when asked about Williams’ off-field problems, has said that he “knows what this kid is made of, and he’s worth hanging with.” Jameson Williams needs to prove Dan Campbell right by being the best person he can be so that he can be the best player that he can be.
