Jasson Takes Manhattan While the Yankees Take Away Left Field

MLB

It's no longer just a conspiracy theory but a conspiracy fact. The New York Yankees have an issue with Jasson Dominguez. They can't frustrate him, nor can they get him to lash out. On an evening when his elite talent is beginning to blossom and a series where Dominguez's defense is coming together, the Yankees took away his moment. The disrespect they continue to show him just continues to find new levels of absurdity. The latest was that he lost his contact lenses. This is the extent of the Yankees' organizational creativity.

It's funny when it comes down to it. They lost a generational talent in Juan Soto to free agency. However, in their system, they may have potentially found his equal. Yet they refuse to acknowledge this, and no one in their organization can give you a legitimate reason as to why. It was a night when Jasson had three hits and drove in three with one swing of the bat from his weaker side of the plate to bring the Yankees back from oblivion against the Kansas City Royals.  His reward an inning later was to be removed for defensive purposes, they will tell you. In this case, it was a lost contact lens when his bat circled back to his head, knocking his helmet into his face and dislodging his contacts. He did not have a backup pair. He was replaced in the next inning.

A weaker mind would be done for the season. However, this 21-year-old doesn't even flinch. When Trent Grisham ran down a ball in deep center, he was seen in the dugout clapping and smiling. The narrative about bad defense has been turned on its head as of late, but their response to getting a lead in the seventh inning was placing Cody Bellinger in left and Grisham in second, making a liar out of Aaron Boone.

It's as if they don't want to give him the chance to prove that he is their number one prospect for a reason. The Yankees don't believe in their youth. The young players that are in their lineup, like Ben Rice, Austin Wells, and Will Warren, had to beat the door down and perform so well that they could not be ignored. The only sin Jasson has committed is that he is not Anthony Volpe. He is not an anointed one.

The Yankees continue in a manner that makes one question whether they are trying to lose. Is there a secret cabal in the organization that wants the Yankees to remain titleless for another decade? Do they recognize that blocking their youth while they word salad, everyone, to the reasons why they fail to perform helps them fail? The desire to play mistake players regularly because they pay them a lot of money leads to holes in the lineup and inevitable defeats. They do everything to outsmart themselves into unlikely losses and marry mediocrity as if George Steinbrenner and a 27 championships heritage never existed. Jasson did indeed take Manhattan, but the Yankees removed the mask of invincibility. They exposed him as a lion who would remain in the pen and never get to roam the tundra freely.
