João Félix’s Long-Term Move to Chelsea

Chelsea F.C. has been very active this summer, making plenty of trades and transfers. One of these includes the signing of João Félix. The 24-year-old has just signed a six-year contract and there have been mixed reactions to this by all fans. With the regular Premier League season getting started, all of these contracts are a popular topic. We will be going into Félix’s contract and what that could mean for Chelsea this season.

Félix’s new contract is certainly a long-term one. Lasting six years with an optional seventh-year extension. This is longer than his last contract, where he spent five seasons signed with Atletico Madrid. In his time with Atletico, he was sent to other teams on loan, as well. Teams like Barcelona and Chelsea; going between La Liga and the English Premier League. His time with Atletico gained him a lot of passionate fans and critics. This comes naturally when playing a professional sport, but this move was especially hard for some. In reaction to his signing with Chelsea, Atletico fans deface his Plaque in the Atletico Hall of Fame. This took place about a month ago now.

Since then, he has played in three matches of the four total for the regular season. Félix has already earned himself a goal, with his three substitutions. His new team currently has two wins and one draw. Chelsea seems to be on track for another great year. Last season, they placed sixth overall and are currently in eighth. This doesn’t mean much, as we are only at the beginning of the season, but these are good to see so early on for the team and the forward.

Going forward, It will be interesting to watch Félix continue to develop his skills as he makes his return to the English Premier League. Chelsea has been making some big moves this past summer spending large amounts on new players and new contracts. There are some who believe this will backfire on the team and management. This includes João Félix’s contract, of course, but so far so good. He’s bound to get better with his steady growth throughout the years, and making a name for himself in soccer while becoming a fan-favorite.
