Jordan Love Shows Off His Potential in Sunday Night Win Over the Chiefs

Patrick Mahomes would head to Lambeau Field for the first time in his career to face the Green Bay Packers on Sunday Night Football. With Green Bay at 5-6, they needed a win if they wanted to extend their hopes of contending for the playoffs. Well, they were able to do so defeating the 2023 Super Bowl champions in a great matchup with a score of 27-19. With Jordan Love getting more comfortable in the Packers offense, do they have a realistic chance of making the NFC playoff picture? Let’s check out how the Green Bay Packers defeated the defending Super Bowl champs.

Green Bay started with the ball first and on almost an eight-minute drive, quarterback Jordan Love threw a one-yard touchdown to Ben Sims, while Anders Carlson knocked in the extra point attempt giving the Packers the first score of the night. On the Chiefs' first drive, they were able to get to the red zone, but Green Bay’s defense was able to sack Patrick Mahomes. The sack on the Chiefs’ two-time Super Bowl-winning quarterback resulted in a Chiefs field goal. Green Bay held a 7-3 lead going into the second quarter. Jordan Love would get this Packers offense down the field once again on their second drive of the game. Love threw a nine-yard touchdown pass to Christian Watson, with Carlson hitting the extra point attempt. This gave the Packers a 14-3 lead with ten minutes left in the second quarter. Mahomes would get the Chiefs to the red zone on their second drive and for the second time on the night, and for the second time in the game he was sacked. Kansas City settled for a field goal and now trailed 14-6 going into halftime.

The Chiefs would get the ball first in the second half of Sunday Night Football. With the work of Mahomes and running back Isiah Pacheco, Kansas City would be back in the red zone for the third time of the night. This time they were finally successful in scoring a touchdown as Pacheco rushed the ball in one yard for the score. Kansas City attempted a two-point conversion to tie the game up at 14 but failed making it a 14-12 Packers game with about nine and a half minutes left in the third quarter. In just a few short minutes, Green Bay would score once again. Jordan Love showed off his potential when on a 4th and 1 he threw a 33-yard bomb to Jayden Reed. A few plays later, Love threw the football to Christian Watson who made a ridiculous catch in the end zone for his second touchdown of the night. With Carlson making the extra point, the Packers now lead 21-12. Kansas City would respond with a touchdown on the next drive. Mahomes threw a two-yard touchdown pass to backup tight end Noah Grey. Chiefs’ kicker Harrison Butker successfully kicked in the extra point attempt. This made it a 21-19 Packers game with 14 minutes and 50 seconds remaining in the game.

With six minutes left in the fourth quarter, Carlson hit a 40-yard field goal to bring the Packers lead to five. Mahomes had a chance to come back and score on the next drive but was intercepted by Green Bay’s cornerback Keisean Nixon. Love had a chance to ice the game but was sacked at the Chiefs 30-yard line. Packers kicker Anders Carlson would get his team's lead to eight after hitting a 48-yard field goal. It was a wild last few minutes of the game. Christian Watson would get injured and wouldn’t return for the Packers. After a few penalties, Patrick Mahomes and the Chiefs would be at the 50-yard line with 50 seconds remaining. They simply could not score, even after a last-second Hail Mary. Green Bay would pull off the impossible defeating the 2023 Super Bowl champions 27-19. The Packers now move their record to 6-6 winning four out of their last five games. They currently hold the seventh and final NFC playoff spot. For the Chiefs, they sit at 9-4 and are the third seed in the AFC playoff picture.

Packers quarterback Jordan Love went 25 for 36 hurling 267 passing yards and three touchdown passes. Green Bay’s top running back of the night was AJ Dillon who had eighteen carries for 73 yards. Romeo Doubs was the Packers leading receiver with four receptions for 72 yards. Christian Watson had seven receptions for 71 yards and two touchdown catches. Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes went 18 for 24 tossing 183 passing yards, a touchdown, and an interception. Isiah Pacheco ran the ball 18 times for 110 yards, with a rushing touchdown. Travis Kelce had four receptions on the night for 81 yards. While the Chiefs will have another interesting matchup ahead of them in Week 14 as they face the Buffalo Bills, the Packers will face the New York Giants on Monday Night Football.
