Kevin Patrick Released From WWE

From the Netflix deal to The Rock joining the TKO Board of Directors, and the constant speculation of who is going to win this year's Royal Rumble match, WWE has been the talk of the town. A story that has been lost in the shuffle but has the most impact on the product right now, was Kevin Patrick being removed from the “Friday Night SmackDown'' announce desk. Today, news came out that Patrick was not only gone from “SmackDown” but gone from WWE entirely.

Kevin Patrick, real name Kevin Patrick Egan, first worked as a broadcaster for CNN and Apple TV+ before he joined WWE in 2021 as a backstage interviewer, and preshow host. Showing incredible charisma and excitement in these roles, WWE took a chance and made him lead announcer on “Monday Night Raw” in October 2022. This is the moment fans began to turn on Patrick. Although he was a nice guy and was trying his best, he felt like an outsider and didn’t have the knowledge or talent that most of his counterparts had. With the news of him being removed from the announcer’s desk, many believed he would return to an interview/pre show host role, but instead, WWE made the decision to remove him entirely.

Kevin Patrick had been the lead announcer on “Friday Night SmackDown” since August 2023. There he sat alongside Corey Graves and Michael Cole as a three-man booth. Cole was brought in to teach Patrick on the job, with the ending goal being Cole would improve Patrick's abilities, which would then allow Cole to only have to work “Monday Night Raw” alongside Wade Barrett. It appeared that WWE was satisfied with the progress Patrick had made, as of only a few weeks ago, Cole had left the “Friday Night SmackDown” table.

Michael Cole will once again be called upon to play hero, as he will once again fill in on “Friday Night SmackDown” as a temporary move until WWE finds yet another announcer. The best ‘in-house’ option lies with NXT’s head announcer Vic Joseph. Joseph has been an announcer on “Monday Night Raw” once before, but he lost that position. Joseph has shined in NXT alongside Booker T. showing his dedication to improving in his role. Vic Joseph is more than ready for another callup and to be the new voice for “Friday Night SmackDown”.
