Key Giants Takeaways: Lessons Learned in Tough Week Seven Loss to the Eagles
The New York Football Giants did not have a great game at all against the Philadelphia Eagles. There were errors made all over the place for this New York team. It resulted in a massive blowout loss with a final score of 28-3. It couldn’t look any worse with the Giants losing three out of the last four games they have played. Here are takeaways from this denotation of a game.
1. Revenge for Barkley
Saquon Barkley returned to MetLife Stadium this past weekend to play against his former team. Barkley was a monster from the moment the first snap was thrown. He took the ball down the field and ran a 40-yard rush in the second quarter. The 40-yard run by Barkley would be followed up by a touchdown for the Eagles. There were a ton of boos from Giants fans when Barkley made his way to the field for yesterday's game. Barkley steamrolled over the Giants and took 17 carries for 176 rushing yards. In total, he added two receptions for 11 receiving yards. Barkley had three runs for at least 30 yards.
Finally, after Barkley had continued to march over the Giants, the boo’s that was going to Barkley, started to be more focused on the Giants team. Barkley came back and ate them all up. It didn’t take long but the Giants defensive line just could not stop him. It was one of the uglier games played for the Giants and there was no coming back from this.
2. Jones Plays Bench Warmer
The game started off really promising for the Giants team. By the second quarter, the game was full of nothing but broken promises by this team. The Eagles got the ball rolling and scored two touchdowns. All accomplished by Barkley. Daniel Jones got put on the bench in the last 10 minutes of the game during the fourth quarter. The Giants were not coming back from this and the team could not score one singular touchdown during the entire game. The Giants put in Drew Lock and he completed three-of-eight passes for six yards. Even after this disastrous game, head coach Brian Daboll will remain the team's starting quarterback.
Fans are not thrilled about this news. They want to see something else happen and to see points land on the scoreboard. Many of them are tired of seeing week after week of disappointment. Jones is not the guy for the Giants and hopefully next year they will be able to draft a new Giants quarterback.
3. Dexter Lawrence Is the Defensive Line
Despite all of the other woes of this game, the Giants still have one thing going for them, Dexter Lawrence. He added five solo tackles, two sacks, two quarterback hits, and two tackles for loss. He brought the heat into the game like he always does. He did not have either one of his guys on the field with him. Both, Brian Burns and Kayvon Thibodeaux were out during yesterday's game. He, out of everyone on the Giants, had a really great game against the Eagles.
