Looking Back at Brock Boeser’s Time in Vancouver

NHL

This week, Vancouver Canucks forward Brock Boeser told the media that it was unlikely that he would return to Vancouver for the 2025-2026 season. Boeser has been a fan favorite and star player for the Canucks throughout the years, so his potential departure from the team is weighing heavy. Since before the trade deadline, there has been talk of a possible trade as they couldn’t agree to the terms of a contract extension. With another season of Boeser on the Canucks looking unlikely, let’s look back on his eight years with the team.

Boeser was drafted as the 23rd pick overall in the 2015 NHL Draft by the Vancouver Canucks, and signed his contract with the team in March 2017. In November of his first year, he was named Rookie of the Month, making the All-Rookie Team in 2018. Boeser has spent all nine seasons since signing his initial contract with Vancouver, becoming an integral piece to the puzzle for the team. Boeser has scored 204 goals in his time in Vancouver and 433 total points.

Boeser was the first Canuck in NHL history to be awarded NHL All-Star Tournament MVP in 2018, the same year he won the Cyclone Tayler Trophy. He has also been awarded the Cyrus H. McLean Trophy twice, once in 2018 and again in 2021. In 2023, he earned the Daniel and Henrik Sedin Community Leadership Award for his involvement with the team. He also supported Canucks For Kids, contributing to local charities and community programs.

In 2023, Boeser kickstarted the Canucks’ season with a four-goal game, leading to an 8-1 win over the Edmonton Oilers. His four goals that night tied the record for most points scored by a Canucks player in a season opener. Boeser shares this record with Greg Adams and Rick Blight. Additionally, in the 2024 Stanley Cup Playoffs, Boeser carried the team to a Game Four victory against the Nashville Predators with an exciting hat-trick.

Rumors began spreading about a possible trade just before the trade deadline earlier this year, with head coach Rick Tocchet taking to the media to explain that they were having difficulty coming to an agreement on a contract extension. It was later revealed that many teams had put in offers for Boeser, but he ultimately remained on the team for the rest of the season. However, as his contract wraps up in July of this year, the likelihood of his return is becoming increasingly slim. Brock Boeser has become a fan favorite player amongst Vancouver Canucks fans, and many will be sad to see him go if they cannot work out a contract deal before next season.
