Mets Agree to Terms with 31-Year-Old Pitcher
With the Mets looking to build on their magnificent run to the National League Division Series, they are already making splashes in free agency. The Mets have agreed to terms with Frankie Montas, who will provide much-needed depth to this rotation. The 31-year-old pitcher has a five-pitch arsenal, having a dominant usage of the fastball, but usage of sinker and cutter are pretty high as well. Montas received a hefty sum of money and is expected to deliver in the middle of this Mets rotation.
ESPN’s Jeff Passan first broke the news. In 11 games played last year, Montas posted a 3-3 record with a 4.55 ERA and 1.26 WHIP. His career averages are different, possessing a 4.09 ERA and a 1.31 WHIP. He now joins his sixth team after playing for five in his ten-year career. His best start with the Brewers last year came when he let up just one hit through seven scoreless innings on August 20th against the St Louis Cardinals. He tallied three strikeouts and walked just one.
Montas started his career in 2015 with the Chicago White Sox. He then went on to spend six years with the Athletics from 2017 to 2022 when he was traded to the New York Yankees. He went on to spend 2023 with the Yankees as well. Monntas has struggled to stay healthy, posting 160 starts over the course of his ten-year career. He hopes to bring the Mets some consistency in the rotation.
