NFC Rivals Collide: What to Expect in Packers vs. Seahawks Week 15

NFL

The Green Bay Packers are set to face the Seattle Seahawks this Sunday night. Green Bay is looking to bounce back after a close loss to Detroit, while Seattle is coming off a dominant win over Arizona. The Packers haven’t won in Seattle since 2008, but they’re hoping to change that this weekend. With just three games left after this one, a win on the road would be huge as they push toward the playoffs.

While the Seahawks’ defense is solid, they’re far from invincible. One of their weaknesses is stopping the run, as they’ve allowed an average of 126.5 rushing yards per game. That’s where the Packers’ running game can make an impact. In just the last four games, Josh Jacobs has had eight touchdowns. He’s been everything the Packers have needed, and more, and his presence will be key once again in this matchup.

On the other side, the Seahawks aren’t lacking in the run game either. Running back Zach Charbonnet has been impressive, especially after his breakout performance against the Cardinals, where he rushed for 134 yards and two touchdowns. The Packers’ defense has improved against the run this season compared to years past, but this is not the game where they can afford to slip up. Both defenses will need to be on their A-game, as this game could come down to which team can dominate on the ground.

It might feel like a broken record, but it’s always true: pressure can disrupt any offense. The big question is whether it leads to turnovers, and that largely depends on the quarterback. Geno Smith has thrown 12 interceptions this season, ranking just behind Kirk Cousins and Baker Mayfield. The pressure has been relentless for Smith. Seattle hasn’t done a great job protecting him, with Smith getting sacked 40 times so far. If the Packers’ defense can keep the heat on him, it could be a long night for the Seahawks’ offense.

The Packers have had their fair share of penalties this season, but they’re not alone in that department. The Seahawks are no strangers to yellow flags, either. In fact, they’re ranked fourth in the league with 98 penalties for 754 yards. They’ve committed 22 defensive holding penalties and six defensive pass interference calls, which could give the Packers a lot of free yardage and automatic first downs. The key for Green Bay will be staying disciplined and avoiding adding to that penalty total, or else it could turn into a yellow flag fest that benefits Seattle.

The Seahawks, as a fellow NFC opponent, certainly provide a tough challenge, but they also offer another valuable opportunity for the Packers to gain experience and build a solid sample size heading into the playoffs. Both teams are in strong positions to make the postseason, and this game will bring them one step closer. For Green Bay, it’s all about finishing the season strong and with momentum. Be sure to tune in to the game on NBC this Sunday, Dec. 15, 2024, at 8:20 p.m. EST.
