Nine-Time Pro Bowl Linebacker Signs with the Commanders
Since coming into the league in 2012, inside linebacker Bobby Wagner has become one of the best at his position in the 21st century. Coming off another highly productive season, the longtime Seattle Seahawks defender has signed a one-year eight-and-a-half-million-dollar deal with the Washington Commanders. Over his 12-year career, Wagner has spent eleven of his twelve seasons with the Seahawks and a brief 2022 stint with the Los Angeles Rams. The Super Bowl XLVIII champion will now have an opportunity to continue cementing his anticipated Hall of Fame career with the Commanders for the 2024-25 season.
Wagner, 33, was drafted in the second round of the 2012 NFL Draft by the Seahawks. Prior to his NFL career, Wagner played four seasons at Utah State University from 2008 to 2011. During his collegiate career, Wagner recorded 445 combined tackles, four and a half sacks, and four interceptions. During his senior season in 2011, Wagner was named the WAC Defensive Player of the Year after tallying 147 combined tackles, two interceptions, and four sacks. After being drafted by the Seahawks, Wagner’s rookie season in 2012, was the start of a dominating stretch of Seahawks’ defenses, notably being nicknamed “Legion of Boom.”
Throughout Wagner’s NFL career, the nine-time Pro Bowler has recorded 1,706 combined tackles, 996 solo tackles, 710 assisted tackles, 33 sacks, six forced fumbles, and 13 interceptions. With his game-changing performance at the linebacker position, Wagner has accumulated numerous accolades in his career, notably being a six-time First-team All-Pro, four-time Second-team All-Pro, and a three-time NFL tackles leader. Last season, Wagner continued to put up impressive numbers for the Seahawks, as he finished the season with 183 combined tackles, 96 solo tackles, 87 assisted tackles, 3.5 sacks, and one fumble recovery. Following his signing with the Commanders, Wagner looks to continue being a dominating and impactful force in the middle of the field next season.
