No More Negativity, Says Liverpool
Mindset affects performance. In the world of soccer, former striker Robbie Fowler translates this as the negativity brought upon fans and even sports teams themselves whenever trophies and championships are lost. “The thirst for silverware,” as he calls it, is the relationship defining a team’s motivation for success and the symbols of success themselves. The desire for silverware grows with each step further into success. Fowler believes that just one more championship title will make Liverpool content.
As a thriving team, Liverpool is no stranger to success as they secured a record-extending 10th EFL Cup title in 2024. However, recently, they’ve been in somewhat of a slump. During this season, Liverpool arguably had its worst display from its defeat by Italy in a mid-March tournament to losing 2-1 to Newcastle United in the League Cup Final, days after bowing out of the Champions League to Paris St. Germain on penalties. Hopefully, all that will change. Fowler notes that along with the motivation brought about by silverware, there is also the fan’s support. Back in 2020, Liverpool lost the Premier League to Manchester City because COVID made for an empty stadium.
The Premier League of this season is coming up, and Liverpool would do good to sharpen their thirst for silverware. Plus, what better way to do that than during their big upcoming game against a team that hasn’t lost nine times in a row? Defeating the Everton team is bound to shake Liverpool out of its current negativity. In fact, the North England Team coach reportedly feels that a clash with Everton is exactly what Liverpool needs to blow away the cobwebs. Everyone remembers last year, when talks went around that Liverpool lost the league at Goodison Park? This game is a rare opportunity for redemption because while it may not have been true that Liverpool lost the league, that swirling negativity certainly gave fans a lasting impression to hold onto, but also made no contributions to the soccer team. Now, almost one year later, Liverpool will have the chance to defeat Everton, quench their thirst for silverware, and cement their title as champions.
