Patriots vs. Seahawks Week Two Preview
After a rather shocking win against the Cincinnati Bengals, the New England Patriots are set to have their first home game of the 2024 season against the Seattle Seahawks. Both teams hold a 1-0 record after Week One, and the Patriots are going into this game with confidence. The whole world seemed to be against the Patriots going into Week One, and they were the most likely to end up fourth in the AFC East this year. Since they shocked the world at Cincinnati, they are bringing some momentum back home to Gillette Stadium in a Super Bowl 49 rematch.
This will mark the third time both teams have faced each other since Super Bowl 49 nearly a decade ago. The Seahawks hold victories against the Patriots in the last two games. They faced each other a total of 18 times with Seattle holding a 10-8 record over New England. While yes, the Seahawks have the overall record, the Patriots have the momentum, and the mind games. We all know Seattle is going to get reminded of what happened in the Super Bowl pregame.
The Patriots’ offense last week was pretty decent, everyone is more focused on how well the defense performed. Jerod Mayo led his team to his first win as head coach by leaving Cincinnati with a 16-10 victory, holding Joe Burrow down with only 164 passing yards with a 21/29 passing completion, zero touchdowns, and sacking him three times. The Patriots forced two different fumbles. One of them was going to lead for a touchdown for the Bengals, but the ball was punched right out of Tanner Hudson’s arm right at the goal line by Kyle Dugger which led to a field goal from Joey Slye. The second being on special teams where the Patriots punted the ball and the Bengals returner fumbled at their 20-yard line which led to another field goal. Rhamondre Stevenson had the only touchdown for the Patriots in the first play of the second quarter, running for 120 yards with 25 carries.
The Seahawks just barely beat the Broncos with a 26-20 victory, giving Mike Macdonald his first victory as a head coach as well. Geno Smith threw for 171 yards with an 18/25 completion, one touchdown, and one interception, as well as having the longest run of his career with a 34-yard touchdown run. Kenneth Walker III posted his seventh 100+ yard game of his career with 20 carries and a touchdown run. The defense intercepted Broncos rookie quarterback, Bo Nix twice, handing him his first loss in his NFL career, and causing two safeties against them which is pretty much uncommon in today’s NFL.
While the offensive in both teams is somewhat questionable, if you are into a defensive clinic; this game might be just that. Can the Patriots continue the ride of momentum and get the win over the Seahawks? Or will Seattle show their feelings are still hurt and continue this small, but interesting winning streak after the Super Bowl 49 heartbreak? Only one team is going 1-1 and the other 2-0 and we will find out which is the better team on September 15th at 1 p.m. ET in Foxborough.
