Pistons Set NBA Record with 27 Consecutive Losses

NBA

Last night, the Detroit Pistons put themselves in the NBA record books, but it’s not for something they should feel proud of. After losing 118-112 to the Brooklyn Nets, Detroit has now logged their 27th consecutive loss of the season, now putting them at a 2-28 record. The previous record was set by the 2013-2014 Philadelphia 76ers, and the 2011-2012 Cleveland Cavaliers, who lost 26 games in a row. During the final seconds of last night’s game, loud chants of “sell the team” rocked the Little Caesars Arena.

In last night’s matchup, Pistons point guard Cade Cunningham dropped 41 points in 37 minutes of action, along with nine rebounds, and five assists. Detroit’s next highest scorer was veteran role player Alec Burks who scored 15 during the loss. Even with this Pistons team being so young, it’s clear that Cunningham does not have another legit scorer on the team to throw the ball to, who can help him during tough matchups, and close games. Maybe one of the young guys on the roster will eventually step up or make the next step in their career, but by the looks of it, the Pistons are stuck in an endless abyss, until they make a move, or until one of the younger guys takes that role.

This Pistons team is on pace to go 5-77, which is unbelievable. What’s crazy is how they have a great coach in Monty Williams, and they still can’t find a way to win. Williams signed one of the most lucrative coaching deals in NBA history, a six-year deal worth close to 79 million dollars. If Monty can’t take this team to the next level, in a year or two, this coaching signing will probably go down as one of the worst in NBA history. Detroit hasn’t seen the postseason since 2019 when they were swept in the first round by the Milwaukee Bucks. The Pistons haven’t won a first-round series since 2008. Detroit has to face the best team in the league, the Boston Celtics on Thursday, and then host the Toronto Raptors on New Year’s Eve. Will the Detroit Pistons win before the New Year?
