Pittsburgh Steelers vs. Indianapolis Colts Week Four Recap

NFL

The Pittsburgh Steelers finally met their match during Week Four against the Indianapolis Colts, when they lost for the first time this season. They did not go down without a fight and were able to lose by a mere three points in a final score of 27-24. This small difference in points is even more impressive when one considers that the Steel City team came back from a 14-point deficit, just falling short in the final minutes of the fourth quarter. This game brought a few of the Steelers’ consistent mistakes to light, leaving fans wondering if there should be a change in-game strategy.

The Pittsburgh Steelers’ offense and defense ultimately put on a poor performance. They were not able to win over the Indianapolis Colts, who lost Anthony Richardson, their primary quarterback, in the first quarter. Justin Fields, whose performance has since been called sloppy, messed up one of the final snaps of the game. This was also one of the last chances the Steelers had to defeat the Colts, and the careless mistake that led to the snap hitting off Fields’ helmet was indicative of how the game went for the offensive team. It was glaringly apparent that the offense was unable to hold their own and left many to wonder if they rely on the defense, which have been dominant up until this past match.

However, even though they could not get out of their own way for the majority of the game, the Pittsburgh Steelers offense was able to find their footing in the third quarter after a fumble by Fields. In fact, the quarterback got 233 of his 367 yards in the second half and got three touchdowns, the same he’s earned this entire season. However, there were simply too many errors made, such as a roughing of the fumble in Colts’ territory, a fumble by George Pickens in the red zone, false starts, and a delay of game for Fields to be able to overcome the last three points. The Steelers are certainly looking for their offensive team to pull it together ahead of their Week Five match against the Cowboys, where concise passes and aggressive runs will be necessary for them to pull out a win.
