Possible Offensive Draft Picks for Chargers
One of the biggest criticisms the Los Angeles Chargers faced during the 2024 season was how Justin Herbert had no weapons. The offensive skill players that Herbert was dealing with were below average, and players had to do things that they were unaccustomed to. On the bright side, Ladd McConkey was a pleasant surprise and one of the best rookie wide receivers. He cemented himself as one of the best building blocks for the Chargers Wide Receiver room. However, Quentin Johnston still showed dropping issues, Will Dissly was asked to be a pass-catching tight end which he is not, and both starting running backs from last season are no longer on the team. The Chargers also faced issues in their interior offensive line. The 2025 NFL Draft, especially in the first round, could be an area the Chargers can improve their offensive deficiencies.
Starting at tight end, Colston Loveland and Tyler Warren would be immediate plug-and-play solutions. Loveland is the more likely option at pick number 22, and he is already familiar with the Chargers system because of his time at Michigan. The Chargers could add a rookie tight end that will fit in with their current veteran room. Dissly and newly acquired Tyler Conklin would allow the rookie tight end to ease their way into the offense in 2025.
This class at wide receiver is weak in terms of first-round talent. Tetairoa McMillan and Matthew Golden would be intriguing options at pick number 22. McMillan could fill the Charger's outside wide receiver hole while Golden would be a speedy option for Hebert. In the second and third rounds, the Chargers might be able to find value in Jayden Higgins and Tre Harris. Both of these receivers are big and physical outside guys that are similar to Mike Williams who is back with the Bolts.
The Chargers will not have to address offensive tackle because of how great Joe Alt and Rashawn Slater were. The interior of the line is where things get interesting, especially at center and left guard. Andre James was signed this offseason to possibly be the new center of the team but Grey Zabel from North Dakota State would be a hard player for Jim Harbaugh to pass on. He is a versatile lineman who can play any of the five positions. At running back, the Chargers brought in Najee Harris but this draft class of backs is stacked. Omarion Hampton at pick number 22 would be a home run, but the Chargers can find good value at the position in the sixth round. TreVeyon Henderson, Ollie Gordon, and Jaydon Blue are all possible options the Chargers should have their eye on.
Last season, the Chargers saw two offensive rookies break out onto the scene. Similarly, Greg Roman in 2025 can possibly have a lot of rookie additions to play with. Most of them could be big-time contributors immediately. If the team wants to continue to build off last season's success then they should add players that can fit within their offense.
