Preview of Giants and Steelers Monday Night Football

NFL

A very discouraged New York Giants team will play the Pittsburgh Steelers on Monday Night Football for Week Eight. This week is nerve-wracking for the Giants. Last week against Philadelphia, New York was dealt a complete blowout. Everyone, including the coaches, the players, and the fans, struggles to see where the season goes from here. These two teams first met in 1933. In total, they have played 78 times over the years with the Giants leading the series with 44 wins, 31 losses, and three tied games.

This week, the Giants have had their hands full. They have missed multiple opportunities during their games, but that doesn’t mean it will improve. The Steelers currently stand at 5-2, while the Giants are 2-5, leaving many worried. The Giants have scored a total of 10 points in their last two games, both of which of course resulted in losses. Despite that, Daniel Jones will continue to be the starting quarterback. Head coach Brian Daboll keeping Jones going is in the Giants' best interest. They have been trying to put together explosive plays, but they have not gotten far in any of their recent games.

The Giants will be playing in primetime this week. Jones is 1-15 as a starter in these games. The Giants are also 2-18 such games since Jones, Dexter Lawrence, and Darius Slayton were all drafted to the Giants in early 2019. At least on the road, they are 2-1 this year. In the Meadowlands, the Giants are 0-4. The other issue that the Giants are facing is Russell Wilson. Pittsburgh has a record of 4-2 with Justin Fields starting. Steelers head coach, Mike Tomlin made the decision to put him in this week for finally being healthy. Last week in his first start of the season against the New York Jets, Wilson went 16 for 29 with 264 passing yards and two touchdowns.

Lastly, the Giants are dealing with their issues with their left tackle. Sunday's game was a blowout when they were misguided thinking that Josh Ezeudu was going to be a perfect backup for Andrew Thomas. They thought wrong. The Giants however worked out a deal to sign D.J. Humphries who spent nine years in the position on the Cardinals. They have their options but it won’t be a pretty game for the Giants again this week.
