Pro Bowl Defensive End Re-Signs with the Saints

NFL

After a notable season with the New Orleans Saints, defensive end Chase Young has agreed to terms with the Saints on a three-year deal worth $51 million to stay in New Orleans. The 25-year-old pass rusher entered free agency following the 2024-25 NFL season, during which he demonstrated resilience and playmaking prowess. Young's addition is anticipated to fortify the Saints’ defensive front as they gear up for the upcoming season. His blend of athleticism and tenacity made him a prime target in this year's free-agent market.

Selected second overall in the 2020 NFL Draft by the Washington Commanders, Young quickly made his presence felt, earning Defensive Rookie of the Year honors. Over his five-season career, he has accumulated 118 total tackles, 75 solo tackles, 22 sacks, and 12 passes defensed. Young's rookie season was particularly impressive, recording seven and a half sacks and four forced fumbles, showcasing his disruptive capabilities. Despite facing injuries in subsequent seasons, he consistently proved to be a formidable force on the defensive line.

In the 2024-25 season with the Saints, Young participated in all 17 games, amassing 28 total tackles, 18 solo tackles, and five and a half sacks. His performance was highlighted by a standout game in Week 15 against his former team, the Commanders, where he recorded three solo tackles and two sacks. Young's ability to pressure quarterbacks and defend against the run significantly contributed to the Saints' defensive schemes. His consistent presence on the field marked a return to form after previous injury-plagued seasons.

This acquisition underscores the team's commitment to bolstering their pass rush and overall defensive prowess. As Young transitions to his new team, both he and the Saints express optimism about the impact he will have on their defense. His experience and proven track record are expected to bring leadership and dynamism to the Saints’ defensive unit. Heading into next season, Young will look to maintain his dominance as New Orleans looks to rebound from a disappointing 2024-25 season.
