Quinten Post is a Key Piece for the Warriors Heading into the Playoffs

NBA

Quinten Post has been a great addition to the small Golden State Warriors roster. The Dubs face off against the Houston Rockets in the first round of the NBA Playoffs, with Game One tipping off tomorrow night. Post is expected to play a crucial role in providing scoring off the bench, something the Warriors have lacked in recent games. His size, shooting range, and versatility will be essential in the postseason as Golden State looks to make a deep run.

The 55th overall pick out of Boston College didn’t see much playing time during the first half of the season. However, after spending time with the Santa Cruz Warriors in the G League, Post found his rhythm and built the confidence needed to compete at the NBA level. His performance in Santa Cruz earned him a spot in the rotation, and he hasn’t looked back since. Post has now appeared in 42 games, averaging 16 minutes per contest while contributing eight points and three and a half rebounds per game — solid production for a rookie big man.

With Jonathan Kuminga — the Warriors' leading bench scorer — currently benched, Golden State is in need of someone to step up. Kuminga’s absence leaves a significant scoring gap, and the pressure is now on players like Post to fill that role. Although Steve Kerr hasn’t officially ruled Kuminga out for future games, his benching in the critical matchup against the Memphis Grizzlies is telling. In that game, Post logged 21 minutes, showing that Kerr has growing trust in the young big man when it matters most.

The Warriors' bench has struggled lately, managing just 16 points in their final regular-season game and 30 points in the Play-In win over Memphis. For comparison, the average NBA bench scores around 35 points per game, while the Rockets — Golden State’s first-round opponent — average 32.7. Even though the Warriors finished the regular season with the second-most bench points in the league, much of that came from Kuminga and Moses Moody, who have since moved into the starting lineup. With those two no longer anchoring the second unit, Post’s production becomes even more critical.

It appears Kerr is committed to a nine-to-10-man rotation heading into the playoffs, with a primary focus on playing nine. Post seems to be a key part of that group, earning valuable minutes and opportunities to contribute on both ends of the floor. While his offensive skills are his main weapon, Golden State will also need him to step up defensively and help on the boards, especially against bigger, more physical playoff teams. His continued development and ability to handle playoff pressure will be essential for the Warriors’ success.

As the Warriors prepare for a tough first-round battle against Houston, all eyes will be on Quinten Post to see if he can rise to the occasion. With key players shifting roles and bench production under the spotlight, Post’s ability to contribute consistently could be a game-changer. His growth and confidence this season have been impressive, and he’s quickly becoming a trusted piece of Steve Kerr’s rotation. If he can continue to deliver, Quinten Post might just be the surprise X-factor Golden State needs to make a serious playoff push.
