Rangers Top Defenseman Set for Season Debut
A top New York Ranger defender is ready to return to the ice after being out with an upper-body injury that occurred during training camp earlier this season. Since then, the Rangers have been waiting for this moment for his return. They have had a near-perfect start to their season with a 4-0-1 record through the first five games they have played. After last season ended with a bust against the Florida Panthers, they have come back better than ever. Despite the solid start, they have yet to see one of their better defenders take the ice.
Next on their schedule, the Rangers will be taking on the Montreal Canadiens. New York’s head coach, Peter Laviolette, announced that Ryan Lindgren will return to the New York lineup. They expected him to be out for a month, but he healed faster than they thought which is great as he’s able to help the Rangers out through his early going of the season. Now, with his injury healed, he is finally ready to return to the ice at the perfect time, and it’s just the beginning of the hockey season. Lindgren is a huge asset to this team and New York has done well developing his game and treating him like he was a homegrown star. While he was out, two other blue liners were covering for him: Chad Ruhwedel and Zac Jones. They have both been doing a decent job. Hopefully, fans will see more of them on the ice during the season, but Lindgren has been one to take things and run with them up and down the ice.
Lindgren is also in his last contract season with the Rangers. He has spent almost his entire career with them. At age 26, he has played 333 games with this New York Team. His contract earns him $4.5 million against the salary cap. During his time with the Rangers, he scored ten goals and contributed 70 assists for 80 points. There should be no issues with Lindgren continuing to play with this hockey team, provided they offer him a new contract. With how he has played with the Rangers, he is a pivotal player in their defensive corps. Hopefully, he will stay despite the looming roster changes amongst the Rangers.
