Red Bull Considers a Swap from Lawson to Tsunoda for the Japanese Grand Prix
After Christian Horner addressed the speculation of Liam Lawson potentially being replaced at Red Bull for the upcoming Japanese Grand Prix, ESPN F1 came out with an Instagram post expressing how they are now considering Yuki Tsunoda to drive in Lawson’s place. The original interview with Horner came out on Sunday, March 23rd, and the Instagram post came out on Monday, March 24th. Tsunoda, the driver for Visa Cash App Red Bull, would be driving his debut for Oracle Red Bull Racing at his home race on the Lenovo Japanese track. Interestingly enough, Lawson was Red Bull’s new hope after letting go of Sergio Perez yet he ended up not finishing at the Australian Grand Prix. He also ended in 12th place at the Chinese Grand Prix, hence the potential desire for a driver switch.
Even after Horner was faced with questions during his interview, he said that though the beginning races have been tough, the team is doing its best to support Lawson. He refused to comment on Tsunoda’s candidacy for the seat, saying that anything he says will be written out of context, but now, with the new postings, what can that really mean? Tsunoda, when asked about the swapping of seats, replied that the car he would be driving would, of course, be faster. However, many comments from fans suggested that the second Red Bull car and seat are "cursed.”
No further statements have been made regarding the switch, but another post on the F1 Instagram page was made on Monday, March 24th, from Lawson saying he just wants more time to adjust, but there is simply no time to waste. Many fans' thoughts align in saying that switching Red Bull drivers is getting out of hand, as the car is only suited for one driver’s style, and anyone would struggle if you’re not Max Verstappen. Other thoughts include wanting Tsunoda in the Red Bull seat, as he has proved his worth and skills time and time again. Now, it is simply the waiting game. Will Tsunoda replace Lawson? Will Lawson be completely dropped? Make sure to watch the upcoming race on April 6th.
