Rising Defensive Tackle Star Re-Signs with the Cowboys

NFL

After a disappointing Dallas Cowboys season where injuries and bad play led them to a 7-10 record, the team still had bright spots on the roster. One of those players was Osa Odighizuwa, a defensive tackle who is heading into free agency in the offseason. Odighizuwa, 26, is near the end of his rookie contract since being drafted in 2021. He is one of the rising defensive talents in the NFL, generating interest from other teams such as the San Francisco 49ers and the Washington Commanders. Now it is being reported by Adam Schefter that Odighizuwa has agreed to a four-year 80 million dollar deal with the Cowboys. Odighizuwa will look to keep being on the trajectory that he and the Cowboys felt like he has been on.

Osa Odighizuwa, since being drafted alongside Micah Parsons in the 2021 NFL Draft, has been one of Dallas's better defensive players for the past couple of seasons. Overlooked by the talent Parsons is, the former third-round pick from UCLA has become one of the better pass rushers at the defensive tackle spot in the league. Versatility is a massive part of his game too, as he is one of the Cowboys’ better run-stoppers. At 6'2 and 280 pounds, his physical traits rarely see him get bullied at the line of scrimmage, which is one of his best attributes.

This past season in Dallas was Osa Odighizuwa's best, posting four and a half sacks, 47 total tackles, and a forced fumble. Odighizuwa was also among the leaders in pressures for his position, having over 60 total. Most impressive was his ability to be productive for the whole season, not fading off at the end of the season in previous years. The 2024-2025 season for the Cowboys was one to forget, but Odighizuwa had his personal best. Odighizuwa will head into next season with the Cowboys and hopes to be able to get his wish of winning a Super Bowl.
