Russell Wilson 2024 Expectations

NFL

During the past couple of months, Russell Wilson has been called every name, ranging from ‘declining star’ to ‘a great leader.’ The endless stream of press began when the former Denver Bronco was released in the offseason, before quickly being picked up by the Pittsburgh Steelers. Originally named the starting quarterback, he sustained a calf injury just before the season opener against the Atlanta Falcons and was sidelined. While many speculated that his career is ending, others believe the Pittsburgh Steelers will provide him with the offensive tools and players he needs to dominate on the field again.

Russell Wilson holds an impressive resume, and it appears that the Steelers were hoping to bring the former Pro Bowler’s experience, insight, and leadership to their roster. Though Wilson is coming off the heels of two poor seasons with the Broncos, achieving just 26 touchdowns in his last season with them, many expect him to bring a shift in energy to his new team. The Steelers offer the veteran a secure team environment, something that the quarterback thrived in during his time with the Seattle Seahawks. During his time with the Broncos, the Denver team switched Nathaniel Hackett with Sean Payton for the head coach position, and the team’s hopes of Wilson and Payton clicking fell short. The Steelers anticipate Wilson to be able to perform more successfully by offering not just a sound coaching staff, but also with a winning program, providing the quarterback with some momentum.

Another reason for Russell Wilson’s expected success is attributed to the Steelers’ similar dynamic to that of the Seahawks. Unlike the Broncos, who have a low-ranking defense and typically avoid running a heavy offense, the Steelers can provide Wilson with both attributes, similar conditions he performed under at the Seahawks. The quarterback is far from alone on the offensive team and is joined by wide receivers George Pickens and Calvin Austin III, among many other players, individuals that nearly guarantee Wilson has the tools for success with the Steelers. It appears that the Pittsburgh Steelers’ investment of time and standout players will lead them to a successful 2024-2025 season, and it is none other than Russell Wilson who is expected to help the team complete this goal.
