Seahawks Hire Ravens Defensive Coordinator as Their Head Coach
A new era is dawning upon the Seattle Seahawks. It was just announced Wednesday afternoon that the team has hired Baltimore Ravens defensive coordinator Mike Macdonald as their new head coach. With the departure of Seahawks’ legendary coach Pete Carroll, this team needs a new identity, and they believe Mike Macdonald is the man to turn things around for this franchise. Macdonald is now the youngest NFL head coach at 36 years old and has received a six-year deal with Seattle.
Macdonald started working with the Ravens in 2014. For the past two seasons, he’s been working as Baltimore’s defensive coordinator. In 2021, Mike Macdonald was not with the team as he served as the defensive coordinator for the University of Michigan. That was the year Michigan broke its ten-year losing streak to their biggest rivals, Ohio State. This year, he led the Ravens’ defense with the fewest points allowed in the NFL. The Ravens’ defense also ranked, sixth in passing yards allowed, first in fewer touchdown runs allowed, and second in red zone efficiency. Baltimore’s defense features four Pro Bowlers. Macdonald is heading to a Seahawks team that was ranked 25th in points allowed the past two seasons.
On the team’s official website, Mike Macdonald wrote, “What an honor. We are super excited to be here. Just getting to know general manager John Schneider and the rest of the folks, the reputation of this place, what drew us here was the people. That's why we're here, to bring a championship back to Seattle and the 12s.mWe're going to have a lot of fun, we're going to work our tails off, and it's going to be an incredible ride. We're going to be here for a long time, and we're going to win a lot of football games.” Will the Seahawks find success under their new head coach?
