Should Jalen Hurts Be Considered an Elite Quarterback After Super Bowl Win?

NFL

After a dominant performance by the Philadelphia Eagles, Jalen Hurts has now avenged himself for the loss he took at the hands of the Chiefs a few years ago on this very stage. Jalen Hurts has dealt with a lot of criticism for the past few years with many fans believing he wasn’t a good enough passer to win the big game. However, he now gets the honor to be called a Super Bowl Champion with this win tonight. So, has Jalen Hurts solidified himself as an elite quarterback in the NFL with this Super Bowl victory?

Last year, the Eagles were a solid team, but not many considered them a contender because their defense was incredibly bad, which is the opposite of what they have been this season. The Eagles were able to retain most of their offensive line, outside of Jason Kelce, which massively benefitted Jalen Hurts this season. When we look at this season, we recognize that the Eagles have been one of the top teams all year and a lot of that credit has to go to Saquon Barkley, who the Eagles acquired in free agency from their divisional rival, which is a fact that many Giants fans will continue to lament for years to come. This team isn’t dependent on Jalen Hurts. They have a great offensive line, a top tier running back, several dynamic wide receivers, and a defense that really flexed its muscle tonight when it mattered the most.

So what about Jalen Hurts? Well his eliteness in comparison to other great NFL quarterbacks still is up for debate. The Eagles haven’t called upon him many times this season to carry the Eagles, especially with Offensive Player of the Year, Saquon Barkley, having a nearly record shattering 2000 yard season this year. However, in this game Jalen Hurts played very well. With the running game being shut down for most of the night, Jalen Hurts had to move the ball through the air with efficiency and smartly scrambled in certain situations to pick up key first downs. In this game, Jalen Hurts played exactly how he was supposed to play. However, when we look at the elite quarterbacks around the NFL, they set themselves apart because in situations that require them to put the team on their back, they can do it. Although Jalen Hurts played nearly perfect tonight, I do not believe that it will do much to silence his critics moving into next season.
