Six-Time Pro Bowl Defensive Tackle Announces Retirement

NFL

For the past decade, six-time Pro Bowl defensive tackle Fletcher Cox has been one of the best at his position, with his leadership, mentality, and brutal tackles. The Philadelphia Eagles looked like the best team in the National Football League at one point, but by the time the playoffs rolled around, the Eagles were eliminated quite quickly. After a stunning 32-9 blowout loss in the NFL Wild Card Round against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, many did not understand what direction the Eagles were heading in, especially with all the rumors flying around about almost the entire team. We just found out that Fletcher has just announced his retirement.

Cox played college football for three seasons at Mississippi State University. During his junior year, he had 103 total tackles, 11 sacks, and two interceptions, while in his senior year, he recorded 104 total tackles, 10 sacks, an interception and a fumble recovery. The Eagles traded their 15th overall pick for the 12th pick just to select Fletcher Cox. He became the highest-drafted Mississippi State Bulldog since Michael Haddix in 1983, and the highest-drafted Bulldog defensive lineman since Jimmy Webb in 1975. Since then, he became a Super Bowl champion, with six Pro Bowl appearances, one first-team All-Pro selection, and three second-team All-Pro selections.

Last season Fletcher Cox played in 15 games. The six-time Pro Bowl defensive tackle put up 32 combined tackles, 15 solo tackles, and 17 assisted tackles. He also had three tackles for loss of yardage and four and a half sacks. His best game of the season was against the Eagles’ biggest rivals, the Dallas Cowboys on December 10th. Cox had three combined tackles, one solo, and two assisted, with a sack and a pass deflection during a 33-13 loss. The 33-year-old can now enjoy retirement after a wonderful NFL career.
