Steelers vs. Chargers Week Three Preview
Week Three for the Pittsburgh Steelers is sure to be a nail-biter as they face off against the Los Angeles Chargers, who also remain undefeated this season. The result of the game, which will take place this Sunday on the Steelers’ home turf, is heavily speculated about for several reasons. For one, Justin Herbert, Chargers’ quarterback, has not yet been confirmed to be playing this Sunday, reportedly because of a high ankle sprain. Herbert has been an integral part of both of the Chargers’ previous wins, and losing him just days before the game is not ideal for the L.A. team. However, the Steelers are similarly unable to use their starting quarterback, Russell Wilson. He has yet to participate in a game for the Pittsburgh team this season and will remain on the sidelines again for Week Three.
Wilson’s absence provides second-string Pittsburgh Steeler Justin Fields with yet another chance to prove himself as starter material. Throughout the two previous weeks, the quarterback has played impressive games against the Falcons and the Broncos, totaling 258 yards between the games. However, Fields has only thrown one touchdown pass and struggled significantly alongside his offensive team for the second half of last week’s game. The match-up against the Chargers provides Fields with not just an opportunity to prove himself to the coaching staff but also to have his breakout game. The quarterback’s room for improvement, coupled with the Steelers’ knack for handing over penalties—they gave up 10 in Week Two—makes Week Three out to be an interesting game.
An added complexity for the Pittsburgh Steelers is that one of the team’s former wide receivers,Dez Fitzpatrick, left the team to join the Chargers practice squad. Though the former Steeler had a standout preseason, the Chargers have yet to start him this season. The Chargers are also coming off a great start to the season, largely influenced by new head coachJim Harbaugh. The game will be a physical one, with both head coaches emphasizing the importance of tough, physical defense. The Pittsburgh Steelers and Los Angeles Chargers are looking to defend their undefeated title heading into this third week, and with both teams’ starting quarterbacks either out or questionable, the game will certainly be worth watching.
