Survivor Series: WarGames 2024 Reactions
WWE has wrapped up another exciting Survivor Series WarGames event, and despite featuring only five matches, a lot unfolded. Two thrilling WarGames matches took center stage, with the women perhaps delivering the standout performance and the men telling a captivating story. LA Knight defended his United States Championship against the newly reimagined Shinsuke Nakamura, while Bron Breakker fought to retain his Intercontinental Championship in a triple threat against Sheamus and Ludwig Kaiser. Gunther faced former champion Damien Priest in a battle for the World Heavyweight Championship.
Women’s WarGames Match
For the third consecutive year, the women’s WarGames match opened the show, featuring an electric lineup: Rhea Ripley, Bayley, Naomi, Iyo Sky, and Bianca Belair took on Liv Morgan, Raquel Rodriguez, Nia Jax, Tiffany Stratton, and Candice LeRae. The highlight of the match came when Iyo Sky executed a breathtaking moonsault dive off the WarGames cage, clad in a trashcan, followed closely by Tiffany Stratton’s swanton bomb from the opposite side. Ripley sealed the victory for her team by using her signature move, the riptide on Liv Morgan from the top rope through a table, getting the pin on her biggest rival, this now raises the question: does this signal the end of their ongoing feud? Fans can only hope.
LA Knight vs. Shinsuke Nakamura - United States Championship
In one of the night’s most shocking moments, Shinsuke Nakamura triumphed over LA Knight to claim his third United States Championship. Knight remains a beloved figure, having earned the title from Logan Paul at SummerSlam in a moment fans celebrated. With his championship reign now over, what lies ahead for LA Knight? Will he seek a rematch, or pivot back to the main event scene? Nakamura, having returned just two weeks prior, is poised to be a formidable champion with his fresh character evolution.
Bron Breakker vs. Sheamus vs. Ludwig Kaiser - Intercontinental Championship
The question lingers: will Sheamus ever capture the Intercontinental Championship? He has pursued this title since 2022, and it remains the only accolade missing from his illustrious Hall of Fame career. For Ludwig Kaiser, this was his first premium live event as a singles competitor, and he proved he could stand alone outside of Imperium. The match further ignited the rivalry between Sheamus and Kaiser. As for Bron Breakker, in less than a year on the main roster, he has already claimed the Intercontinental Championship twice and triumphed over some of the best. His victory tonight came via two devastating Spears, showcasing his dominance.
Gunther vs. Damien Priest
Damien Priest finally got his rematch for the World Heavyweight Championship against Gunther. Unfortunately, after a hard-hitting encounter, Priest was thwarted once again by Finn Bálor’s coup de grâce on the outside. Gunther, who once seemed unstoppable as the Intercontinental Champion, is facing a struggle to maintain the same momentum in his World Championship reign. His title defenses have not lived up to the hype, and he now appears to be more of a stepping stone for other storylines rather than a dominant champion.
OG Bloodline vs New Bloodline
One year after CM Punk’s much-anticipated return to WWE, the Cult of Personality made his WarGames debut, aligning with the OG Bloodline of Roman Reigns, Jimmy and Jey Uso, and Sami Zayn against the New Bloodline of Solo Sikoa, Tama Tonga, Tonga Loa, Jacob Fatu and Bronson Reed. The match was filled with storytelling memorable moments, including an accidental spear from Reigns to Punk and the spot of the night with Bronson Reed’s tsunami off the cage through a table, though Reed missed his mark, with Punk saving Reigns. The match concluded with a flurry of finishers aimed at Solo Sikoa, culminating in Reigns pinning the “New Tribal Chief.” The night ended on a poignant note, with Reigns and Punk shaking hands, finally putting their past differences aside.
