Switching Sides: 26-Year-Old Ends Career with Liverpool to Sign with Real Madrid
After months of negotiations, Liverpool star player Trent Alexander-Arnold is in the process of finalizing a five-year contract with Real Madrid. Ever since January, rumors have swirled around among soccer fans that the star player was considering a change of pace. This comes as Alexander-Arnold approaches the end of his contract this summer, meaning that a defender can move in on a free transfer. The Liverpool right-back joins a trio of other star players who will be out of contract by the end of this season– including Virgil van Dijk and Mohamed Salah. He has long caught the eye of the European Champions and sources from Spain indicate their expectation that Alexander-Arnold will join Carlo Ancelotti’s side when his contract expires at the end of the season.
Despite their loss to Italy during a match in mid-March, Liverpool has had a relatively successful season. For Trent Alexander-Arnold, this was not enticing enough for him to stay in Liverpool. Instead, the 26-year-old seems more enticed by the compensation of this ‘transfer’. In fact, the star player will reportedly earn around €15m-per-season as well as a signing bonus. What’s more is that even after a 20-year boyhood career, Alexander-Arnold leaves Liverpool with a lasting imprint as it is ‘set to rake in millions’ because Real Madrid claims that it is ‘prepared to offer a transfer fee’ to secure an early arrival.
Of the Liverpool star player trio, Alexander-Arnold has always stood out on his own as he is rumored to have been Real Madrid’s primary target from the start to replace former right-back to replace Dani Carvajal. For almost two years the Spanish giants have been long-term admirers of the right-back defender as he accomplished impressive feats of the sport. Renowned for breaking the Premier League record for most assists by a defender, Alexander-Arnold scored his 60th and 61st goals for a teammate during Liverpool's 3-3 draw at Newcastle and claimed victory over teammate Andy Robertson. At the end of the day, Trent Alexander-Arnold will take with him to Madrid all of the highest continental honors at Anfield as well as his success in raising the Premier League, FA Cup and Carabao Cup, the Champions League, and both the UEFA World Cup and World Cup.
