T-Wolves Devastate Suns to Take a 3-0 Lead
The Minnesota Timberwolves have been trying to prove the doubters all season long. After finishing third in a brutally tough Western Conference, the T-Wolves doubters came out again saying this team doesn’t have what it takes against the West’s top contenders. Well, Minnesota has proved the skeptics wrong once again, since taking a 2-0 lead in the series last night they devastated the Suns in Phoenix 126-109 to take a 3-0 lead in this first-round series. The Timberwolves have the chance to be one of if not the first team to advance into the second round of the 2024 NBA Playoffs. If they win Game Four, it will be interesting to see if they can keep their great play going against the Denver Nuggets or the Los Angeles Lakers.
Phoenix kept the first half interesting as they battled in the first quarter and only trailed by two points, while during the second quarter, the Suns kept it close all quarter long until the T-Wolves went on a 7-2 run at the end of the quarter giving Minnesota a six-point lead. The third quarter is what hurt this Suns team. First, Phoenix could not stop Minnesota’s hot shooting as the Timberwolves shot 62 percent from the floor, and 63 percent from three. The Suns shot 40 percent from the floor while missing all five of their attempts from three-point range. Phoenix was also outrebounded 12-7. Minnesota walked away from the third quarter with another shocking 20-point lead in this series. Although the Suns outscored the T-Wolves 26-21 during the fourth quarter, it was not enough to take Game Three at home.
Anthony Edwards led all scorers with 36 points while recording nine rebounds, five assists, and two steals. Rudy Gobert finished with a double-double of 19 points and 14 rebounds in the win. Karl-Anthony Towns also had a double-double with 18 points and 13 rebounds. Bradley Beal, Devin Booker, and Kevin Durant combined for 76 points going a total of 26 of 52 from the field. Even on a combined 50 percent shooting, with such a limited offense outside of those three all-stars, the Suns struggled again, and obtained their third straight loss, now on the brink of elimination.
