The 2024 MLB Hall of Fame Ballot: Who Will Get In?
The 2024 MLB Hall of Fame inductees will be announced today. The ballot has some new, exciting names including Jose Bautista, Adrian Gonzalez, Adrian Beltre, and Bartolo Colon. There are also some former stars still on the ballot awaiting to finally get the call. Here, I will give my predictions on who’s going to be voted in.
IN
Last year, in his fifth year on the ballot, Todd Helton was just short of receiving the number of votes needed, 75%, receiving 72.3% of the votes. Helton was a five-time all-star, three-time Gold Glove winner, four-time Silver Slugger, and the 2000 National League batting title winner. The slugger with 369 career home runs was one of the best and most underrated first basemen of his time. A .316 career batting average and a 61.8 career WAR isn’t too shabby, either. I don’t see a world where Helton doesn’t make it this year, especially with the amount of votes he got last year.
Billy Wager is one of the best closers in history. Entering his ninth year on the ballot, Wagner received 68.1% of votes last year. He racked up 422 saves to go along with seven all-star games and a 2.31 ERA. The former flame thrower is more than deserving.
Maybe?
Andruw Jones was one of the best defensive Center Fielders in history, racking up 10 Gold Gloves and five all-star games. Even though he has 454 home runs, his .254 career average and 111 OPS+ leaves him from being a lock for the Hall of Fame.
Bobby Abreu has a .291 career batting average with 288 home runs. His lack of accolades, however, is what might keep him out. In his 18-year career, Abreu only won a single Gold Glove and has made two all-star games.
Steroid users
Alex Rodriguez and Manny Ramirez are the odd men out. Both have been held out due to steroids, but if David Ortiz made it in, why can’t they? In my opinion, they should be left out, but only time will tell.
