The Giants Are Keeping Their Options Open Heading Into the Draft
The Giants know what they are dealing with when it comes to this year's draft. They are currently sitting back with the third overall pick and know that the two teams sitting in front of them are going to try and are already making plans to pounce on Cam Ward and Shedeur Sanders to be their starting quarterbacks for the new season. As badly as the Giants wanted them, there would be no feasible way to get them without trading up, and both the Tennessee Titans and the Cleveland Browns have already said no. So, New York has been looking into other options if this is the case. They know that keeping their decisions is the best course of action, especially when it comes to finding the right guy to be their number three overall pick.
One of the areas that the Giants have been keeping an eye on and contemplating is Louisville’s quarterback, Tyler Shough. This young quarterback is only 25 but already has a history of playing football. He has had injuries and has played for several colleges already, such as Oregon, Texas Tech, and his current Louisville Cardinals. In his meetings, he knows what he is talking about when it comes to playing on the field, and that was something both coaching and management have liked to see.
Shough threw for 3,195 yards with 23 touchdowns last season. He’s proven himself and has followed the path of most quarterbacks. The 25-year-old isn’t a first choice, but he definitely would look good as a backup to both Jameis Winston and Russell Wilson. If he can do the job as the backup, then it’s something that New York needs to do.
The Giants may or may not still try to go for Ward and Sanders, but if they don’t, this would be the best backup option. Unless they decide to continue with their decision of Abdul Carter or Travis Hunter. It’s all up to them. The team is definitely interested in him, but the Giants will most likely surprise everyone in the end. Shough would definitely be a great backup choice for the two veterans.
